1. 28.12.44 Crupper 33 SOE Norway: Unsucessful, no R/C DZ indentified by map reading. Very clear moonlight, with good vis. L/F at 6027N 0910E on starboard 8/10 miles Landed at Rufforth
2: Landed early W/T equipment burnt out.
"There was no flying on the 27th due to the freezing weather and low cloud. It was just as well, given the activities in the various Messes. The following morning, with a slight improvement in the weather, seven crews were detailed for operations that night. Four would be detailed for drops in Holland while three experienced crews,
F/O Hardwick DFC, F/O Hull and F/O Tovell RAAF, would be heading north for Norway.
The three crews briefed for Norway were the first away. Flying Officer Hardwick DFC and crew arrived over their DZ at Nesbyen at 22:38 hours. Even though conditions were clear, the crew received no reception signal. For 15 minutes, the crew circled the area around the town until finally turning south and the journey home. They landed at RAF Rufforth, North Yorkshire, at 02:05 hours, having been airborne for 8 hours. It was the crew's 35th operation. More successful was the crew of F/O Hull. They reported an excellent reception committee at 59.33N - 08.46E (Hjartdal) at 22:16 hours. The entire load was dropped from 800 feet over four minutes.
The rear gunner, W/O Wainwright, reporting all the parachutes deployed and landed across the DZ. Flying Officer Tovell RAAF and crew had a trouble-free operation encountering no opposition and
acquiring an excellent reception over 'Bit 10'. The crew landed at RAF Rufforth, reporting 'A very good trip'.
