After leaving Norway P/O Wells sent messages indicating that he would have to ditch and his last messag was sent at 0320 hrs in position 56N 0655E - Search parties were sent out by sea and air for several days and though a dinghy was found, nobody could be rescued. It was subsequently learned that P/O Wells completed his mission.
S/L Scott ws obliged to feather an engine over Norway and, before reaching the English coast, the oil pressure had dropped to 40 lbs/Sq.in. on two other engines. On reaching the coast S/L Scott made a 'Mayday' call and landed at Langham.
